Optimizing Your Google Business Profile
Hey, welcome back! You’re on the page about the Google Business Profile audit in the Terrific Reviews Book.
Google has recently updated a lot of the cool features that used to be hidden or unclear. Without sharing any personal information about a client, I want to walk you through the ins and outs of the Google Business Profile.
Let’s say you’re a small business looking to delegate access to an agency or someone who’s helping you out. Always proceed with caution. Here’s how to do it:
- Click on Business Profile Settings.
- Select People and Access.
- From there, you can add or remove users from your profile.
Important: Never assign anyone as a primary owner if you’re the business owner—you should always retain that role. For example, I’m listed as an owner for accounts I help create, but when delegating access, users should only be assigned as managers to prevent them from having super admin rights.
The profile dashboard is sleek and user-friendly. You can:
- Edit your profile details.
- Add your service areas, business hours, and even tie in social profiles.
- Easily manage everything from this centralized dashboard.
If you don’t see these options, you may not be logged in with the correct Google account. Ensure you’re using the right credentials to access your profile.
From this dashboard, you can:
- Read and reply to reviews: Click on the review and respond. For those using AI, our software imports reviews, drafts responses, and lets us add keywords before posting.
- Request more reviews: Click the review link, which can be emailed, shared on Facebook, or even used to create QR codes and NFC cards, as discussed in previous videos.
Another useful tool is the Performance section, where you can see search terms, customer traffic, and other insights. It provides a clear view of how customers are finding your business (e.g., “roofing in Baltimore” or “slate roofing”).
Want to run paid ads? Simply click the option here.
We also recommend adding your products and services. This helps Google understand your offerings and boosts your visibility. Google wants to deliver the best search results to users, so the more information you provide, the better your chances of connecting with potential customers.
For specific business types (e.g., spas, dental offices, or child care centers), unique features will appear. For example, roofing or home service businesses may have booking options, while other industries might focus on Q&A sections.
Pro tip: Use the Q&A section to answer common customer questions, like:
- Are you open on Sundays?
- Do you provide free estimates?
- Will you tarp a roof?
Adding these FAQs helps both your customers and Google understand your business better.
Lastly, don’t forget to post regular updates. Social media efforts should integrate with your Google Business Profile. This sends important signals to Google, reinforcing your services and specialties (e.g., slate roofing, gutter installations, etc.). Our software automates this by posting across multiple platforms, including your Google Business Profile.
A complete profile significantly improves your free organic results on Google. Many businesses don’t take full advantage of this, but optimizing your profile can drive traffic and generate leads without paid ads.
If you need help, we’re happy to provide a free audit. Most businesses we work with are far from where they need to be, but with the right adjustments, you can see incredible results.
Remember, Google wants to help your customers find you—it’s up to you to make it easy for them.
